- La Bastille – Crap bar in the Leidseplein area. But it’s dark, late, wild, loud and filled with girls looking for adventure. Sometimes, anyway. The late-night bar ‘Bubbles‘ is around the corner and is a good option in case your “no guts, no glory” attitude did not come until 5 minutes before closing time. Or when the Bastille is just empty ‘couse you walked in. On weekends, this pick-up spot is full of drunken students and recent graduates.
- Coffee Company – The Amsterdam coffee (Latte for chicks) chain is always a good place to meet lots of women. Loads of locations throughout the city.
- If you like blond and not too intelligent girls that know nothing about politics but do know the difference (in exact euro’s!) between an a Mercedes and a Mercedes AMG, check out Paledium. You even spot your favorite Ajax soccer player if you’re lucky. It’s that guy with the AMG in case you’re not into soccer.
- The arty / creative single drinks his beers at the cafe bar Weber. Warm hospitality and super busy on weekends. Closes an hour later then most bars in town. Two other bars from the same owner are located next door so you can check out girls in 3 bars within 4 beers. Lux Café is a little more loungy style and Kamer 401 is the newest and probably the ciqest.
- Fancy students? Any bar at the roeters eiland region is a pretty good option then. Especially in the daytime. Try Kriterion, which is an arthouse movie theater with a very nice, hip and comfy bar in the first place. Also a good location for drinks and discussions when you’re with your girlfriend. Just a decent place with beautiful young people, not to that flirty. If you want quick and dirty, the next option is probably better.
- And the number 6 in this top 5 list; Harry’s Bar. It’s a cocktail and cigar bar where cosmopolitans will feel in place. Full with tourists, ex-bats and Amsterdam students. It’s tiny so you have no problem bumping in to girls. But if it’s empty, it’s depressing. Go to Het Schuim in that case. Very weird place where the Amsterdam coke scene used to gather. You might run in to some high 30 something with a money problem looking for your hotelroom. (and iPod / traveler-checks the next morning.)
