Okey, bars close in Amsterdam at 3 am. But you don’t want to go home at 3 am. if you only have a weekend. Just one more beer in a late-night bar then … maybe the girl of my dreams is having a last beer in the same bar … Usually it’s only men in those bars but hey; you never know.
I’m skipping night clubs in this list b.t.w. It’s bars only.
So if you’re out and about and not redeady to go home, here’s your list:
- San Fransisco Bar – Stange place on the border of the red light district where prostitutes used to have a drink after work before they went home. Nowadays it’s mostly students and other lowlifes that hang at the bar but it’s still real good fun. It’s Grande! The doorman can be picky though.
- De Buurvrouw – wanna play pool (8-ball) or pinball at 4.30 am? Or just watch the bohemian looking DJ playing record while being attached to the ceiling in a floating DJ booth? Go see the Buurvrouw (Neighbors wife).
- Cafe Nol – The most famous late-night bar in Amsterdam. Don’t know why, probably because it’s in the Jordaan district and they use lot’s of red/pink lights. Most kitsch / over the top place in town. It’s not the best bar on the list but it does have the most diverse customers of all. Celebrity chefs and singers next to the upstairs neighbor and the local hairdresser. The bouncer is real dumb and an asshole.
- Savoy bar – The savoy call’s itself a night club. In my opinion it’s a bar. It’s a bizarre experience, which I can’t explain. Just check it out for yourself. It’s has a real ‘oldskool Amsterdam bar interior. And the forgotten prostitute at your end of the bar is of the same age as the waitress at the other side of the bar, who is of the same age as your grandma. I believe you can actually book a room and stay but I never got that drunk …
- Mazzeltof - Not my favorite but since there are few late-night bars this one made the list. At least it’s famous. And there a lot of pretty but drunk (or should I say pretty and drunk) student girls. And student boys full of testosterone of course. It’s usually so extremely busy that it takes about 20 minutes to get to the bar.
